About the area

The Mar Menor is Europe’s largest saltwater lagoon, at over 100 miles squared. It’s separated from the Mediterranean Sea by a narrow strip of land called La Manga. Alicante airport is only an hour’s drive away, to which regular flights from the UK take around 3 hours. Because of its unique geography the Mar Menor has long been a favourite of water sport enthusiasts and there’s also seven sandy beaches, most backed by popular cafes and restaurants. But if you’re after a more low key scene there’s also some nice quieter coves and many of the towns and villages have a relaxed, authentic charm with some lovely churches and squares all basking in the 300 days of annual sunshine.
