Laura Hamilton is in the beautiful region of Puglia in Italy with house hunter Mark from Kent, who has a life-long love of Italy. Having recently retired, he has set his sights on finding a holiday bolthole to escape to at various times of the year. With best friend John also at hand to lend his support, Mark would love to find a 3 bedroom townhouse, but will Laura be able to deliver on his dream for his budget of £80,000?
About the area
The region of Puglia has mainland Italy’s longest coastline, at over 500 miles. It’s nearest international airport is Brindisi, which can be flown to directly from the UK in about 3 hours. Found right in the heel of Italy, Puglia enjoys a great mild climate all year round and its glorious sandy beaches and sheltered bays come to life in the summer when temperatures peak at 30 degrees. A few miles inland and you can find characterful towns and villages - like Ostuni, otherwise known as the “white city” because of its charming whitewashed buildings. Dominating the surrounding countryside are olive groves, which produce 40% of Italy’s total olive oil production. And with all the wheat that's grown here too, it's no wonder Puglia is known as the breadbasket of Italy.
