About the area

Languedoc Roussillon is a former region of France now part of the wider administrative area of Occitan that has the popular tourist town of Carcassonne at its heart, home to a busy airport welcoming flights from across the UK. Best known for wine and Rugby, the region has three times more vineyards that Bordeaux and a number of important Rugby clubs both union and league performing well internationally and nationally. While Carcassonne is obviously a major draw with its medieval centre and raft of tourist attractions, away from the town the countryside here offers a slower pace of life and access to the gorgeous Mediterranean climate.
