Ben Hillman jets off to southern Spain to help Deb and Steve from Clacton-on-Sea. The couple first met 18 years ago on a blind date. They’ve always loved their holidays in Spain, and now that they’re both retiring, they’ve made the big decision to make the move out there permanently. All they need is a house, and they’ve chosen the area around Roquetas de Mar in Almeria Province to look for it! Ben has 5 great properties up his sleeve for their budget of £130,000 – but will any be perfect?

About the area

It’s a pretty resort and fishing town a fifteen minute drive west of Almeria city with its international airport welcoming flights from most corners of the UK. Roquetas de Mar offers a wonderful combination of tradition with its winding streets and authentic bars and restaurants, alongside some buzzing tourist areas offering access to the handful of pristine local beaches around the town. There’s also a great little marina here if you’re keen to get out on the water, and for lovers of history and the arts, Castilla Santa Ana, built between the sixteenth and seventh century holds exhibitions and concerts.
