About the area

A two and a half hour flight from the UK into Murcia Airport and a short drive takes you to Mar Menor on south east Spain’s Costa Calida. It’s home to one of the largest natural salt water lagoons in Europe, around 65 square miles, with towns, resorts and sandy beaches dotted along the coastline. The mineral rich water has been attracting people here since Roman times and migrating birds, such as flamingos, flock here, too. The lagoon is separated from the Mediterranean Sea by a narrow strip of land called La Manga and water temperatures here are around 5 degrees more – perfect for those who want an active holiday.
