Playa Blanca, Lanzarote - A Place in the Sun

Playa Blanca, Lanzarote Craig Rowe

Primary school head teacher Kirsty, from County Armagh, is looking for a holiday home on the Canary Island of Lanzarote, and she has brought along her best pal Wendy to help with the search. With a budget of £120,000 it’s Craig Rowe who is tasked with finding her the perfect place. He has five impressive properties to show off but will any result in an offer?

About the area

The Canary island of Lanzarote is located 621 miles of the Iberian Peninsula and 78 miles off the African coast. It is the easternmost of the autonomous Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. And, at 327 square miles, the fourth largest of the Canary islands. With over 100 miles of coastline and 26 official beaches, as well as its dramatic volcanic landscape and clear blue sea, it’s understandable why so many tourists come here!

Tourism has been the main industry here for the last 40 years, with the only other industry of note being agriculture. Mass tourism is limited to just three resortareas on the island (Costa Teguise, Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca), so it’s possible to enjoy a quiet, peaceful getaway visiting small fishing villages and secluded coves, or of the vibrant nightlife and the comforts of luxury resorts and rich cultural centres. In total, 1.12 million tourists visited Lanzarote in 2021(in 2019, it was 2.91 million).
