Lazio, Italy - A Place in the Sun

Lazio, Italy Danni Menzies

Danni Menzies is helping Sandy and Andy find their perfect new home amongst the beautiful lakes and mountains of Lazio in Italy, which they dream of eventually retiring to, and for now want to use for holidays with their huge family of five kids and six grandchildren. They’ve given Danni an ideal budget of £70,000 to hunt out a traditional-style house with plenty of space and a big enough garden to grow fruit and veg, and Danni’s got five great options lined up, but will the couple love any enough to put in an offer?

About the area

Lazio is one of the 20 regions of Italy, and is right in the centre of the country, with Rome as its capital. There are regular direct flights into the city taking under three hours from the UK.

Our house hunt is based in the area an hour and a half south of the airport, around the peaceful towns and villages nestled in the countryside and stuffed with history and architecture. In fact, rural Lazio is a bit of a hidden gem with a landscape ranging from mountains to lakes, and nature reserves perfect for watersports against stunning, unspoilt backdrops. With a fantastic climate and food scene similar to neighbouring Tuscany or Umbria, this lesser known part of the region really is an enchanting surprise. And while it’s not the cheapest region to find property, prices to the south are three times less expensive than in the capital of Rome.
