In this episode we’re searching along the southern stretch of Spain’s Costa Blanca, along the 45 miles of coastline between Alicante down to the Orihuela Costa. You can fly directly into Alicante airport from the UK, in about 3 hours. The southern stretch is flatter and drier than the north, and dotted around its landscape are salt lakes – home to flamingos. Along this coast are popular residential areas like Los Altos and Villamartin but also tourist hotspots like Playa Flamenca and Torrevieja. These bustling areas are popular with holiday makers and there’s loads of bars and restaurants. But it’s really the beautiful beaches and turquoise coves here that are the main attraction. The golden sands and gentle lapping waters are perfect for sunbathers and swimmers alike.
