Nurse Karen and GP Alastair from Montrose are longing for a slower pace of life and are relocating to the beautiful countryside of the Dordogne in France. The couple are looking for a character property with a pool, that’s also big enough for their whole family to come and visit, so they’ve asked for Laura Hamilton’s help. Laura has found 5 fantastic options to show them for their £175,000 budget, but will any turn out to be their idea of perfection?

The Dordogne

What's the area like?

The Dordogne region in south western France is about 8 hours drive from Calais – or you can fly into Bergerac right in the heart of the region from quite a few UK airports – the flight time is less than two hours. It is one of France’s most popular holiday destinations, with more than 3 million tourists visiting each year. As well as its traditional French architecture and beautiful countryside, the Dordogne is known as a gastronomic hotspot – you’re never far from a tasty bite to eat or a delicious glass of wine, nearly all home grown. It is estimated that more than 20,000 Brits have a home here, out of the population of 414.000 people in Dordogne.
