Since the announcement that David Beckham has chosen Florida as the location to launch his Major League Soccer team, rumours are rife that the family may buy Matt Damon's luxury seven bedroom home on the Biscayne Bay area of Miami to base themselves in when on the other side of the pond, despite still owning their $22 million home in Beverly Hills, California.
It's not hard to see why the footballing hero has chosen the sunshine state as the place to set-up his team, with legions of British and latino soccer fans, year-round sun and easy access from the UK - not to mention that property there still costs substantially less than it did prior to 2008 - even multi-millionaires can still have an eye for value.
Whilst the Florida property market has undoubtedly improved since the crash, with property values increasing by 12% over the past eighteen months - a trend that is expected to continue albeit at a slower pace, the reduced access to credit and increase in mortgage rates means that foreign buyers with finance in place are now in an ideal situation to be able to snap properties that locals may find tough to finance.
The production team of A Place in the Sun TV show visited Florida for the second time in just over a year recently to film the latest series of A Place in the Sun: Winter Sun. Presenter Jonnie Irwin noted that although some of the almost unbelievable deals that the early-bird such as house-hunters David and Shelley Warner may have bagged might not still be on the cards, but property, especially in some parts of the state, still looks great value.
