The Eastern Algarve - east of Faro airport, running up to border with Spain - is a slightly warmer climate than the west and less windy.
"It is a relatively undiscovered location, has a variety of restaurants, shops and cafes, is not too comercialised but you can find nightlife if you need it," says Sarah Goncalves of Algarve Manta Properties (algarvemantaproperties.com).
"From Manta Rota to Vila Real de Sto Antonio the stretch of very wide award-winning beaches goes on for many kilometres. It is the perfect location for couples or families."
She says that Tavira is the "Jewel of the Algarve", has historic architecture, a lot of interesting shops and many cafes and restaurants, and she is selling fully furnished apartments there from €75,000.
At Manta Rota Beach she has new two-bed apartments for €140,000.
Alternatively, Cabanas is a riverside resort that has access to spectacular beach by motorboat. It has mostly apartments available, good bars and fishing village still although has a bit of nightlife.
"Manta Rota and Altura are untouched beach resorts which are a good area for investment, rental houses and apartments do well - and they are not high-rise at all.
"Even in the height of the summer you have so much beach it doesn't get too crowded. There are good supermarkets also a small selection of shops."
Some further options work investigating: Praia Verde is an area which has concentrated protected pine trees and luxury homes and a wonderful beach.
Castro Marim is a small village with a lot of local history, fort, church and local facilities.
Monte Gordo has a casino, bars and restaurants and is a more cosmopolitan resort.
Or at Vila Real de Stº Antonio - the border town to Spain - you can drive to Spain by bridge or get the ferry across the River Guadiana. Great as a base for boat owners as there is a well-organised marina, plenty of shops, fantastic restaurants.
