Having fallen in love with the country, a British couple recently purchased their second home in Turkey for their retirement.
Three years ago we bought a brand new, three bedroom apartment in Uzumlu, near Fethiye, on the Turkish Mediterranean coast. We now love Turkey so much; its people, its weather and its low cost of living, we have bought a detached villa for our retirement,” says Roger Hawkins.
Roger and Sally Hawkins first started visiting Turkey for their holidays about five years ago, thanks to direct flights from East Midlands and Birmingham, which is near their home town of Newark, Nottinghamshire.
The Turkish apartment they purchased through Oceanwide Properties is in an attractive village with views over the mountains which are often snow capped in winter months. About 40 minutes drive takes you to a small ski resort and 45 minutes to Dalaman Airport.
The apartment is described as being spacious with three double bedrooms. In addition there are balconies and use of a communal pool and landscaped gardens.
Roger adds: “Although we bought it as a holiday home we have had the added bonus of being able to easily let the property and in the high season can receive around £250 per week. In fact, currently we have a six month let on the property which has been an additional benefit.”
The British couple are among a host of Brits who have purchased homes in Turkey in recent years, buoyed by more direct low-budget flights to and from the UK.
