Belmonte Calabro, a fortified Medieval village with some of its well-preserved walls still visible today, is one of the most interesting and well-preserved in the Southern Tyrrhenian area. The typically Medieval layout of archways and steep steps; traditional houses along narrow, winding cobbled streets open into small piazzas where one can sit and enjoy the local ambiance. It offers a variety of local amenities as well as beautiful churches, a restaurant and café bars.

There is also a mountain biking school offering excursions either with your own bike or bikes for hire. Tomato farming is of great importance for the area and the local tomatoes, large and tasty are called “Pomodoro di Belmonte” have received the PDO (Protected Designation Origin) status. Dried figs are also of high quality and well-recognized specialties: in 1910, the first producers were from Belmonte and are still producing excellent products today!!
Amantea is a 10 minute drive south and is a busy town with all the modern amenities: variety of shops and boutiques, café bars, restaurants/pizzeria, gelatarias, pharmacies, post office etc. this blends well with the charming old historical centre where you can meander through the traditional narrow streets and enjoy the true feel of Calabria. The marina beach front offers beach bars and lidos and a small Acqua Park, children’s play area and a variety of seasonal activities.
