The marina, which is away from the town, is the start of the Corridor Verde walking and cycling route alongside the Rio Segura. Added to this are two wonderful parks, the Alfonso XIII nature reserve and the Queen Sofia Park and gardens.
The pine trees and sand dunes of the Alfonso Park connect the town to the marina and provide a flat walking and cycling route. The Reina Sofia Park has shady trees, rolling grass hills, manmade ponds and many resident squirrels, ducks, terrapins, and peacocks!
In addition, there is an adventure playground area which is floodlit, and the nearby children's funfair and night market (summer months only) make for a good evening out.
The inland area of Guardamar is known as the Campo de Guardamar and includes both El Raso and Moncayo urbanizations.
El Raso has a commercial center and a very popular and busy market, which is locally known as ‘the Lemon Tree market’ every Sunday morning with over 500 stalls. All the locals use this market for their fresh fruit and vegetables, usually direct from the farmers, as well as a large selection of personal, household, garden, pet and other goods.
El Raso is a beautiful urbanization with wide Palm tree lined avenues and lots of green areas, it is surrounded by orange and lemon groves and the fragrance of the blossom in spring is wonderful.
El Raso leads down towards the La Mata Pink Lake (Lagoon) and nature reserve offering horse riding and mountain bike trails, there are resident Flamingos and all types of migratory birds.
On El Raso there is a mini-market shop selling fresh bread, newspapers etc daily, bars, cafes, restaurants, pharmacy, hairdressers etc., and a local bus service into the nearby seaside town of Guardamar Del Segura which is only ten minutes away.
Guardamar is a picturesque old Spanish town with stunning blue flag beaches and a beach front promenade lined with cafes offering beautiful sea views. There are miles of Pine and Palm tree covered sand dunes on this stretch of unspoiled coastline.
At the mouth of the river Segura is the marina that combines local fishing boats with luxury yacht births and all types of boat trips are available.
For shopping Guardamar has everything from shoes made locally to large supermarkets, there is also a weekly farmers market and in the summer an evening street market.
Gastronomy in Guardamar offers the best of Valencia and Mediterranean cuisine from Tapas bars to excellent fish restaurants all accompanied by the inexpensive local wines.
Guardamar del Segura has a large port with activities throughout the year, it has a large sports centre with paddle tennis, tennis, soccer, and a large, heated swimming pool that is available all year round. It also has a library where there is free Wi-Fi and computers.
Guardamar del Segura is only 20km away from the Alicante - Elche (El Altet) airport, where there are many flights every day with connections to the main European cities, due to the demand for tourists on the Costa Blanca.
