4 Bed House for sale
Falerna, Cantanzaro, Calabria, Italy
Full Description
Castiglione Marittimo is the ideal location; a traditional historical village set in the hillside and only 5 mins drive from the marina town of Falerna. A 30-minute drive from the airport and train station at Lamezia Terme.
For a historical centre property this is a rare find as it has beautiful gardens – which not too many have.
The property consists of 2 levels with large terrace, from where there are spectacular views of the sea, and well-maintained gardens.
Steps lead from the gate down to the first level that consists of the main terrace, enter into the kitchen with living room, 3 bedrooms and a bathroom – which unusually has a small terrace off.
The lower level has separate access and benefits from a kitchen with lounge, 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. A patio area leads onto the garden.
The whole property was renovated in 2009 by its current owners with re-wiring, and installation of central heating via a pellet fire and/or mains gas. There is air conditioning in the lounge and main bedroom on both levels.
There is an annexe building which is used as a kitchen when eating outside. Traditionally it was used for making salami/prosciutto etc. and has an open fireplace.
Gardens of approx. 850sqm are beautifully laid out and maintained with a barbeque area, pond and a selection of mature trees & plants surrounding a lawned area.
The village of Castiglione benefits from local amenities: grocery store, butchers and caffe bar.
Just 3 km is the coastal town of Falerna Marina featuring a long stretch of beach and a newly appointed promenade where you will find an array of beautiful café bars and restaurants. It is an excellent location to use as a base to explore the beauty of the surrounding countryside and traditional, historic, hillside towns.
Castiglione takes its name from The Norman Castle that was built in 1062, called Castel Leone: this castle became one of the most important defence works of the district, to defend the Gulf of Sant'Eufemia and the abbey of the same name. In 1214 the castle resisted a Saracen invasion. Due to the Saracen raids, the population fled to the mountains and hills, going to live inland thus the area became a lively agricultural area.
The stunning National Park of La Sila is approx 1 ¼ hr drive away and benefits from year-round activities; walking, trekking in the summer and in the winter, there are a variety of ski resorts offering skiing, ski school, snowboarding and skidoos. From the position of the property, you can enjoy the activities of a winter holiday from a winter sun location.
Other places of interest include the museum housing The Bronzes of Riace at Reggio Calabria. The next resort of Gizzeria is famous for its air currents which make it the ideal place for kite surfing and hosts many Championship competitions.
Within a short drive is the town of Lamezia/Nicastro, where there is a vast array of amenities afforded by the principal town for the area together with a zone of archaeological interest and within easy reach is the thermal springs of Lamezia Terme – and Health Spa – La Caronte.
