Location
Litochoro rests on the foothills of Mount Olympus, the highest Greek mountain, and enjoys panoramic views of the Aegean Sea and the coastline of Chalkidiki. The town, home to some 7,000 permanent residents has a choice selection of restaurants, taverns and bars catering for all tastes and budgets, a pharmacy, a hospital, banks, a gym, and several retail shops. Worth visiting is the old quarter of the town, but let it be noted that most of the houses are built in the traditional Macedonian architectural style. Its close proximity to the sandy beaches of Skala Litochorou as well as to the great Olympus National Forest & Park renders it the ideal base both for summer as well as off-season holidays. The Olympus National Park Information Center will provide visitors with all necessary information on the trails and the various sites and places of interest on and around the mountain, while there are several hiking tours in the countryside around Litochoro, for beginner to expert hikers.
