The town of Lucca is a walled historical city that endears itself to everyone who visits. Hidden behind imposing Renaissance walls the cobbled streets, elegant piazzas and shady promenades make it a perfect destination to explore on foot or riding the bicycles offered for rent in many points throughout the city. Lucca has many boutiques, historic cafes and restaurants. The nearby Torre del Lago hosts a summer Puccini festival. Pietrasanta is a town set around a central piazza and flanked with lovely cafes and excellent restaurants. The town has always attracted artists and sculptors and there are many exhibitions held wither in the piazza or in one of the beautiful vaulted halls.
Viareggio is set on the sea front with a wide golden beach and art deco buildings along the main street. There is a marina and excellent sailing opportunities. Viareggio is set at the end of the Versilia golden coast. Versilia is the stretch of golden sandy coast from the tip of Liguria to Viareggio, the southernmost resort on the Italian Riviera. Liberty style buildings housing fashionable shops, cafes, and seafood restaurants line the promenade. Viareggio is famous for the annual Carnevale dating back to 1873 with large papier-mâché floats which parade along the promenade known as the "Passeggiata a mare". In nearby Forte dei Marmi you can shop in the upmarket designer shops or while away the evening 'people watching' in the pretty central piazza, where the bars serve refreshing camparis.
