Location - Distances
Kallimasia is a village in Southern Chios and one of the Mastic Villages, a group of villages whose main activity historically was the extraction of masticha, the resin of the mastic trees grown in the area. These villages hail from the era of the Genovese rule (1346-1566). Unfortunately the original Kallimasia was completely destroyed by an earthquake in 1881 and only ruins remain to remind of its former glory. The village features a small supermarket, a bakery, as well as a coffee shop. It retains some of the charm of its predecessor and is an ideal base to explore the Mastic Villages as well as the southern part of the island, but also its capital, which is just 13 km away.
