Where to find property for sale in Sucina

It’s not particularly famous amongst buyers in the UK yet this little Spanish town behind the Costa Calida is a bit of a gem. Easily reached from airports it is only a short drive to the beaches of the Costa Blanca or crystal clear waters of the Mar Manor lagoon.

So where is it exactly and what can you buy there? Located in Murcia, inland of the two resorts of Pilar de la Horadada and San Pedro del Pinatar at the top of the Mar Menor, this traditional town sits quietly amongst citrus groves with views towards the Columbares Mountains. There have grown up many golf resorts and developments in the wider area, but for now the village is unspoilt.

If you fancy the bright lights of Torrevieja you can head north, or you can head south to many of the Blue Flag beaches within a 30-minute drive, or to the secluded little coves west of the historic town of Cartagena. Región de Murcia International airport is only a 25-minute drive away so you could be sitting on your terrace within an hour of touching down (even with all those extra immigration checks).

The village itself has a charming little square at its ancient hub and although the influence of UK buyers is felt with the availability of fish and chips in cafes, and a few good bars and restaurants.  There are older townhouses in the centre, but a fair few newer blocks of holiday apartments too. One of the highlights of the year is the village’s flamenco festival in July.

Sucina property prices reflect the fact that it is inland, so you can get a two or three bedroom home for around €100,000 to €120,000, and it might even be a detached villa. A two-bed bungalow might be €75,000, a one-bed apartment less than that.

If you are a golfer you have two courses nearby - La Peraleja (with a good a la carte restaurant) or Hacienda Riquelme - and this village doesn’t turn into a ghost town in the winter, when temperatures are a spring-like 16 degrees and the Mar Menor even stays warm all year round for those who love water sports.

Sucina is a relaxed and traditional little town with just enough of an expat flavour to suit some buyers who don’t want the lively resorts. If you don’t want the beach on tap, it’s perfectly located.
